Southbound 49 to Perform at Cookoff

Q. What happens when you're too young to see your favorite band play - because it typically performs in clubs?
A. You get very excited when your band plays at a public venue.

That's what's happening with Southbound 49, a local cover band that will be the headline act for the Asheboro Chili Cookoff. Kids are pumped! Us old-timers are thrilled, too!

The group plays Top 40, old and new rock 'n roll, Southern rock and some original tunes. It's their skill, talent and ability to entertain that won them top honors in a multistate battle of the bands competition in 2004 and 2006.

"Just take those old records off the shelf..."
